Argentinian President Javiel Milei signed an executive order on his first day in office, reducing the number of ministries from 21 to 9, at least partially fulfilling a campaign promise to mercilessly slash government.
This move will slash a great deal of overhead and bureaucracy in government, while not cutting things like welfare transfers. Milei is clearly signalling his desire to do whatever he is legally able to do to cut government, but how much he will accomplish with the legislature is a more complicated question.
