A Wall Street Journal poll conducted between the end of November and the beginning of December finds robust support for Israel in its war against Hamas, as the war enters its third month.
55% think Israel's war against Hamas is necessary in order to defend itself, while 25% believe Israel's response is disproportionate and going too far. 42% support the Israeli side in the conflict, while 12% support the Palestinians.
The poll revealed stark partisan differences on both the war and support for Israel. An overwhelming majority of Republicans support Israel's war as necessary, while half of Democrats think it disproportionate.
Democrats themselves are divided among older pro-Israel cohorts, with 22% of them supporting Israel and 12% supporting the Palestinians, while younger Democrats sympathize with the Palestinians - 35% compared to 13% for Israel.
