Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo announced yesterday (Wednesday) that what he called “extreme settlers” will be barred from the country.

During a speech at the University of Ghent, he said that “violence against civilians will have consequences. Extreme settlers on the West Bank will be barred from entering Belgium. We will work with the United States on sanctions against people involved in actions which undermine the peace, security, and stability of the West Bank.”

He said that “Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced new limitations in entry permits into the US against people involved in actions which undermine the peace, security, and stability of the West Bank.”

De Croo: Allow Uninterrupted Humanitarian Access Into the Strip

Aside from the question of entry into Belgium, De Croo also addressed the fighting in Gaza, noting again that Israel needs to observe international law. “Since the terrible attacks on October 7, the government of Belgium defended the right of Israel to defend its population, the core mission of every government. But from the first day we also asked for restraint, the release of all the hostages, and the respecting of international humanitarian law and uninterrupted humanitarian access.”
