UN Secretary General's Statement

Two Months After the Massacre: the Lukewarm Statement of the UN Secretary General

Two months after the massacre in the south, the UN Secretary-General issued a tepid statement calling for an investigation into the rape crimes committed by Hamas terrorists on October 7th after receiving numerous reports about it, as he said.

About two months after the terrible massacre in the south, last night (between Wednesday and Thursday), UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres tweeted a tepid statement regarding the rape crimes committed by Hamas terrorists on the seventh of October.

In his tweet, Guterres wrote that "there are a large number of reports of sexual violence during the heinous terrorist acts of Hamas on October 7 that must be investigated and prosecuted vigorously. Gender-based violence must be condemned. Anytime. Anywhere."

In response, Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, said that "the Secretary-General's words only sharpen the fact that for him - when it comes to Israeli women, sexual violence that has been proven and determined by the state authorities - still needs to be 'investigated.' When it comes to Israeli women, you can doubt, you can wait 60 days and you can call an unknown party to conduct an investigation. There is no recognition here that Hamas committed these crimes.

"The Secretary General was simply trying to calm the justified anger of many around the world for his shameful silence and the silence of the UN," says Erdan. "The Secretary General ignores the shocking sex crimes of Hamas, but when it comes to the claims of Hamas and the 'Gaza Ministry of Health' against Israel regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza - there are no doubts and there is no need for investigations.

"Next week we will hold an important conference at the United Nations where we will present evidence and findings proving that Hamas committed the crimes and sexual violence. I again invite the Secretary-General to come, unequivocally condemn Hamas for committing the shocking crimes and act truly to open an investigation against Hamas" concluded Erdan.
