In his words, Khamenei said that Iran will continue to support Hamas politically and morally - but will not directly intervene in the fighting. "We will not go to war against Israel on your behalf," the Ayatollah clarified to Haniyeh. He also called on the leader of Hamas to silence the voices in the organization that publicly call for Iran and Hezbollah to join the campaign against Israel in full force.

It was also reported that Hezbollah was also surprised by the attack by Hamas in the south, as the organization's operatives in the areas close to the border of Lebanon and Israel were not on standby and were mobilized immediately upon receiving reports of the events. According to a senior member of the terrorist organization, "we woke up to war."
