According to the report, Khamenei was furious that Hamas did not warn him in advance of their intention to carry out the attack on October 7, and made it clear that Iran will not go to war against Israel directly as a result.
In his words, Khamenei said that Iran will continue to support Hamas politically and morally - but will not directly intervene in the fighting. "We will not go to war against Israel on your behalf," the Ayatollah clarified to Haniyeh. He also called on the leader of Hamas to silence the voices in the organization that publicly call for Iran and Hezbollah to join the campaign against Israel in full force.
