"Money is the lifeblood of the war, including in the conflict between Israel and Hamas," according to Le Figaro, and now France is moving to cut off that lifeblood from Hamas' senior commanders.

The French paper reported that France has now sanctioned and frozen the assets belonging to or controlled by Mohammad Deif and Marwan Issa, the commander and deputy commander of Hamas' Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, respectively.

This decision, which went into effect on November 13, over a month since the Simchat Torah Massacre and the start of the war in Gaza, freezes all assets "owned, held, or controlled" by the two Hamas leaders, as well as funds "owned, held or controlled by legal persons or any other entity themselves owned" by the same.

The asset freeze remains in force until May 13, 2024.
