"Leave the UN"

Czech Defense Minister: "Calling to Leave the UN"

Czech Republic's Minister of Defense, Jana Černochová, called for her country to leave the United Nations following the Security Council's decision to call for a ceasefire without condemning Hamas. She stated, "the Czech Republic has nothing to do in an organization that supports terrorists."

Czech Republic's Minister of Defense, Jana Černochová, called on her country to leave the United Nations on Saturday night. This comes after the Security Council called for a ceasefire at the end of the past week and refrained from condemning Hamas. In her statements, she claimed that the UN Security Council supports terrorism and does not acknowledge Israel's right to self-defense.

"Three weeks ago, Hamas killed more than 1,400 Israelis – which is more casualties in proportion to the population than what the Islamic extremist organization al-Qaeda killed in the 9/11 attacks in the U.S. in 2001," Černochová stated. "Only 14 countries, including the Czech Republic, have taken a clear and meaningful stand against the unprecedented terror attacks by Hamas."

"I am ashamed of the UN," added the Czech minister. "In my opinion, the Czech Republic has nothing to do in an organization that supports terrorists and does not respect the basic right of every state to defend itself. I call for leaving; let's get out of here."

As mentioned, at the end of the weekend, the UN emergency special session called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and demanded to allow the entry of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. 120 countries voted in favor of the decision, 45 abstained, and 14 voted against it, including Israel, the United States, the Czech Republic, Austria, Croatia, and Hungary.

In Israel, there was an angry response to the decision that failed to condemn Hamas. Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, clarified that "Israel will not stop the fighting until the destruction of Hamas' infrastructure and the return of the captives. Today will be recorded in world history as the day the UN, established after the Holocaust, has completely lost its legitimacy and relevance. Today, it was made clear that most of the world's countries do not want to prevent atrocities and massacres; instead, they encourage atrocities and murder and assist the terrorist organization in surviving."

Israel's Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, also responded to the decision, stating, "Israel rejects the shameful UN call for a ceasefire. Israel intends to act to eliminate Hamas just as the world acted against the Nazis and ISIS."
