Jordan: We Oppose the Transfer of the Gazan Population South

The Jordanians also noted in the proposal that they are concerned with the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and its consequences for the civilian population, comprised largely of children. They stress the need for providing full, immediate, safe humanitarian aid without interruption. They also noted that they oppose the transfer of the population of Gaza to the south of the Strip, arguing it is coercive. The discussion will end with a vote on the Jordanian proposal.

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan attacked the letter, saying it entirely ignores Hamas’ existence and makes no mention of it or the massacre it carried out. According to Erdan, the proposal is one-sided and detached from reality, calling for an immediate cease-fire and not addressing rocket fire against Israel or the country’s right to defend itself at all.

Yesterday, during a discussion at the UN Security Council, Russia and China vetoed the United State’s proposal to condemn Hamas for its crimes in the massacre conducted in the Gaza Perimeter area and supported Israel’s right to defend itself. Ten states voted for, two abstained, while the UAE voted against.

After this proposal, the Russians proposed a humanitarian cease fire between Israel and Hamas. The US and Britain voted no, and nine other states abstained. The proposal was rejected.
