Tzachi Hanegbi, Head of the National Security Council, published an unusual tweet on X this afternoon (Wednesday) regarding Qatari involvement in the war: “I am happy to say Qatar is becoming a vital part and interested party in advancing humanitarian solutions. Qatar’s diplomatic efforts are critical at this time.”
Many people attacked Hanegbi online, with one commenter writing: “Qatar is not a state adopting diplomatic or humanitarian solutions, Qatar is the funding of Hamas. Qatar is a terror state, you should be ashamed.”
Earlier this morning, Kann 11 News reported that Brian Nelson, Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, arrived at the Emirates to “prevent Hamas and other terror organizations from being able to raise and transfer funds.” Qatar is one of the states which transfers substantial funds to Hamas, among other things as part of the preconception of “quiet for grant money,” so this is a significant visit.
It was also reported that Nelson had also arrived in Qatar to discuss the matter of the captives and work to secure their release.
Shortly before Hanegbi’s tweet, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed Abed a-Rachman said that “there is progress and a breakthrough on the issue of freeing the hostages.” The Qatari Foreign Minister also said that “there was progress in talks to free the captives from Gaza, we hope to arrive at an agreement between the sides. If the talks continue – there will be positive results.”
