Desperate to free her son

WATCH: Einav Tsengauker approached Netanyahu - and handed him a furious letter

At the opening of his testimony in the Tel Aviv District Court, Einav Tsangauker, the mother of the hostage Matan, entered the courtroom and passed a letter to Netanyahu’s attorney, Amit Haddad, to give to the Prime Minister, who was standing trial. This happened before he was summoned to testify regarding the Qatar-gate scandal.

This morning (Monday), Einav Tsangauker, the mother of the hostage Matan Tsangauker, who is being held in Gaza, entered the Jerusalem District Court and delivered a letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu. The letter was received by Netanyahu’s attorney, Amit Haddad, from her hand, after which she left the courtroom.

In the letter, she wrote that she was addressing Netanyahu because he “consistently and systematically refuses to meet with me privately, despite numerous official requests, as is your usual conduct with all the hostages’ families.”

She wrote about her son, who is being held captive in Gaza, “You are well aware of the deliberate starvation and the physical and mental abuse Matan has been enduring day after day since October 7. I refuse to participate in your hostage reality show, yet I’m updating you so that you remember every morning and every night what the term ‘humanitarian’ means, because everyone is humanitarian.”

At this point, she elaborated: “My Matan carries a genetic muscle degeneration disease called C.M.T., which exists in our immediate family. My daughter Natalie and I are carriers of the disease; my younger daughter, Shani, is an active patient with the disease, diagnosed as such, and she struggles daily with its severe consequences and undergoes treatments. The disease can flare up in situations of anxiety, stress, and fear, and all the more so under the unbearable conditions of captivity, which only increase the likelihood that Matan will go from being a carrier to an active patient.”

She attacked in the letter with very harsh words: “If this has already happened, or will happen due to your deliberate abandonment of Matan, I will never forgive you for it. My daughters and I fear that 542 days of horrific captivity have caused Matan’s condition to deteriorate to the point of risking full disability (just like his grandmother). Above all, we fear that his continued captivity, if it hasn’t already happened, will lead to this.”

According to her, “You know that Matan is being held in captivity alongside another living hostage, a soldier with foreign citizenship, who is expected to be released in the deal being negotiated. Based on intelligence from a few months ago, the two have been together for a long time in one of the hellish tunnels. If the deal goes through, Matan will be left alone in the dark. I’m certain that you fully understand the implications.

“The partial deal currently being negotiated is a direct continuation of the selections you imposed on us with the phased agreement, which you deliberately sabotaged. It stands in complete contradiction to your declarations of commitment to bringing back all our hostages. Their time has run out, and it’s clear to everyone that those still alive who are left behind won’t survive.”

She further wrote: “If the selection deal on the table goes through, you are sentencing my Matan to death. The chances grow that we will never even know what happened to him, and above all, the chances increase that the family’s genetic disease will erupt all at once due to the loneliness and the expected further decline in his mental and physical state. Matan won’t survive alone.”

She concluded: “I demand of you: if that soldier is released, Matan must be released! My child will not be abandoned to die, left alone in a tunnel, because you chose a selection deal for political reasons! And in the same breath, I will say again: do everything to bring back all the hostages. Enough with phases and enough with selections! Put forward an initiative to end the war and bring everyone back in one phase! It is your duty to ensure the return of all the hostages, the living and the fallen.”
