Subjected to a Humiliating Ordeal
Police cross another red line: Teen settlers detained and forced into police cars on Shabbat
Police threatened teens in Gush Etzion on Shabbat with being in closed military zone, and evacuated them, even though it was still Shabbat.

Police officers and detectives from the Beitar Illit station, accompanied by Border Police forces, raided Mikneh Avraham Hill in Gush Etzion in the middle of Shabbat, ordering residents to evacuate, resulting in a severe desecration of Shabbat, under the claim that the area had been declared a closed military zone.
The residents, who were in the midst of the Mincha prayer, tried to explain to the police that this was impossible due to Shabbat and that until that moment, they had been unaware of the closed military zone designation. The police, unimpressed by their explanations, began arresting the residents one by one and loading them into police vehicles, despite it being Shabbat.
A teenager who refused to board the police van was threatened with a Taser and later dragged at the police station, while officers sang the song associated with extremist Haredim, "We don’t believe in the rule of the heretics," mocking his insistence on observing Shabbat. Other detained teens also described degrading treatment they received at the police station, including mockery of their clothing and public humiliation for "smelling bad." Several settlers were arrested on the spot and later released at the police station with the assistance of Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvili from the Honenu organization.
Attorney Shimshilashvili stated: "This is a shameful and law-breaking conduct by those entrusted with enforcing it, especially at a time when it’s clear to any reasonable person that the settlement enterprise serves as a fortified wall against our enemies, who exploited the retreat from Gaza to carry out a massacre unprecedented since the Nazis. Yet, there are those who belittle and harm pioneering youth whose only 'crime' is their love for the land and belief in our right to it. We are here to ensure their rights are protected and will not allow any entity, whoever it may be, to exploit the these settlers and to harm them in such a despicable manner."
