The investigation has remained under wraps due to the involvement of high-ranking political figures, particularly Ben Gvir’s office. According to sources, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was briefed on the matter by Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar. The investigation reportedly focuses on whether members of the police force are being influenced by extremist ideologies that could threaten Israel’s democratic institutions.

The Shin Bet confirmed the existence of the investigation in response to the media coverage, citing the long-standing designation of the Kahane movement as a terrorist organization since 2016. The movement, which was originally declared an illegal association in 1994, has been the subject of ongoing efforts by the Shin Bet to thwart its activities. The security agency's role is to prevent extremist groups from infiltrating government institutions, including law enforcement, and undermine the security and democratic stability of the state.

In response to the news, the Office of the Minister of National Security, headed by Ben Gvir, sharply criticized the Shin Bet's actions. The office described the investigation as an "earthquake," emphasizing the need for Ronen Bar to resign immediately. The statement further accused the Shin Bet of initiating political investigations against elected officials, calling it an affront to democracy and a dangerous overreach by the security agency.

As the investigation continues, tensions are rising between the Israeli government and the Shin Bet, with critics alleging that the security agency’s actions could be construed as an attempt to destabilize the government and carry out a political coup against the will of the people. The unfolding events have sparked a wider debate about the role of security agencies in a democratic society and the potential risks posed by political interference within law enforcement.
