The strike followed extensive intelligence work and was carried out using precise, guided munitions designed to minimize collateral damage to the surrounding area.

The targeted Hamas operative, identified as Ismail Barhoum, was a senior member of Hamas' financial department in Rafah. According to reports, Barhoum was killed in the strike, which was carried out by a drone that reportedly entered a room in the hospital and exploded. The strike was described as a targeted assassination attempt aimed at removing a key Hamas figure involved in orchestrating terrorism and violence against Israel.

Hamas has been widely criticized for its use of civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, to carry out its military operations, often endangering the lives of innocent civilians in Gaza. The use of an active hospital as a hideout for planning and executing deadly terrorist attacks directly violates international law, which forbids the exploitation of civilian facilities for military purposes. The IDF and Shin Bet emphasized their commitment to continuing operations against Hamas in order to eliminate any threats to Israeli citizens while taking care to limit harm to non-combatants in Gaza.

Reports from Gaza mention that there were several casualties from the airstrike, including a number of wounded individuals, with at least one reported to be in critical condition. Early unconfirmed reports also suggest that several members of the UN peacekeeping force (UNIFIL) were injured or possibly killed in the strike, though this information has not yet been independently verified.

The strike marks a continuation of Israel's efforts to target senior Hamas operatives who are involved in planning and executing terror attacks against Israeli civilians. Israel has repeatedly stressed that Hamas' use of civilian sites for military operations complicates the situation, but they remain firm in their resolve to combat terrorism and protect their citizens.
