Heartbreaking testimony

She described the inhumane conditions in which they are kept, shedding light on the physical and psychological toll inflicted on the hostages.

In a heart-wrenching interview on "Morning News," the mother of 23-year-old hostage Evyatar David painted a grim picture of the conditions her son and other captives endure in a Hamas-controlled tunnel in Gaza. She described a nightmarish existence marked by a "sadistic guard" and "inhumane conditions."

Drawing from accounts of released captives, she revealed chilling details: "They’re confined in a booby-trapped pit with a sadistic guard who beats them relentlessly. They’re subjected to experimental treatments, given expired medications as part of a cruel trial-and-error process." The mother’s testimony underscored the brutality faced by those still held by the terrorist group.

Omer Wenkert, who was recently freed from captivity, provided further insight into the hostages’ plight. "The tunnel is a meter wide, with a makeshift toilet pit right beside them," she recounted from his description. "When they fall ill, medical care—if it comes at all—is delayed, and they’re often handed irrelevant or outdated drugs." She added that families have heard "harrowing stories" of a guard who "beats, kicks, and humiliates" the captives, amplifying their suffering.

The four hostages—Evyatar David, Guy Gilboa-Dalal, Tal Shoham, and Omer Wenkert—forged a tight-knit bond to survive their months-long ordeal. "They built a mutual support network," Evyatar’s mother explained. "Each took on a role in their little group. Tal stepped up as a leader, guiding them through fear and hopelessness." With the group now fragmented following Wenkert’s release, she expressed a desperate hope that the remaining three can endure until their return.

Amid the unrelenting hardship, small acts of resilience have emerged. Fighting back tears, she shared a poignant detail: "When they muster the strength, they perform songs by their favorite band, Avenged Sevenfold—Evyatar drums on his chest, and Guy beatboxes." These fleeting moments, she said, offer a fragile connection to the lives they once knew.
