A security alert disrupted the Shomron region on Tuesday, with authorities scrambling to investigate a breach at the Kiryat Netafim settlement. Journalist Hallel Biton Rosen reported that the alarms were likely set off by an Arab car thief who fled from police and leaped over the settlement’s perimeter fence.

The incident, dubbed a “Nighttime Alarm 3” by the council, sparked an immediate lockdown. In a message to residents, the council’s emergency unit, known as the Tzachi Team, confirmed the alert stemmed from “a worker who jumped over the fence of the Netaf project,” raising fears of an infiltration. “Dear residents,” the message read, “an alert has been activated due to a suspected infiltration. The rapid response team is active. Please remain in your homes until further notice.”

Yossi Dagan, head of the Shomron Regional Council, wasted no time, ordering the emergency headquarters to secure the settlement and urge residents to stay indoors. The local rapid response team was deployed, backed by additional security forces who descended on the scene to track down the individual and assess the threat. “We’re examining all possibilities—whether this was a Palestinian worker, a car thief escaping the police, or a terrorist event,” a council spokesperson said, reflecting the uncertainty still clouding the situation.
