Inside Israel's Secret 'Strength and Sword' Operation
Katz: "Hamas must understand the rules of the game have changed"
Defense Minister Israel Katz delivered stern warnings to Hamas following the powerful Israeli Air Force strikes in Gaza, making it clear that Israel is prepared to escalate military operations if hostages are not immediately released.

During a visit Tuesday to Squadron 133 at Tel Nof Air Base, Katz personally congratulated aircrews who participated in the overnight attack that marked the beginning of Israel's "Strength and Sword" operation. The visit came after the IDF launched extensive strikes against Hamas across the Gaza Strip, ending the temporary ceasefire.
"I congratulate the Air Force and the IDF for the unprecedented operation carried out last night in Gaza, which was executed according to the decision that the Prime Minister and I made with the agreement of all security officials," Katz stated while addressing military personnel at the air base.
The Defense Minister's message to Hamas was unequivocal: "Hamas must understand that the rules of the game have changed. If they do not immediately release all female and male hostages, the gates of hell will open, and they will face the full might of the IDF in the air, sea, and land, until their complete elimination."
Katz emphasized Israel's unwavering commitment to both the return of the hostages and the security of southern Israeli communities, adding, "We will not stop fighting until all hostages are returned home and all threats to the residents of the south are removed."
The visit to Tel Nof Air Base highlights the central role the Israeli Air Force is playing in the renewed military campaign. Squadron 133, which operates advanced fighter aircraft, has been at the forefront of Israel's precision strike capabilities throughout the conflict.
Military experts note that Katz's reference to air, sea, and land operations suggests Israel is prepared for a comprehensive military campaign that could potentially include ground operations if Hamas fails to meet demands regarding hostage releases.
The timing of these statements is particularly significant as they come after Hamas reportedly expressed interest in restoring the ceasefire through communications with international mediators. However, Israeli officials appear determined to maintain military pressure until concrete progress is made on the hostage situation.
Security analysts believe the "Strength and Sword" operation represents a new phase in Israel's approach to the conflict, potentially indicating a shift toward more aggressive tactics following months of negotiations that failed to secure the release of all hostages.
The Defense Minister's visit to frontline aircrews also serves as a morale boost for military personnel who have been engaged in continuous operations since the conflict began. By personally delivering his message from an operational air base, Katz underscored both the political and military dimensions of Israel's renewed campaign against Hamas.
As the situation continues to develop, international observers remain concerned about the humanitarian impact of renewed hostilities in Gaza, while Israeli officials maintain that the threat posed by Hamas must be addressed decisively.
