A Tense Calm In The North
Report: Israel returning six Hezbollah terrorists due to Israeli interests
A senior Israeli source speaking with Army Radio said that Israel will be releasing six detained Hezbollah terrorists for the sake of preserving Israeli interests, without elaborating further.

A senior Israeli source said that Israel will be releasing six detained Hezbollah terrorists today (Tuesday), according to Army Radio reporter Doron Kadosh.
The source said that the terrorists were being released in an effort to secure Israeli interests in Lebanon and "other issues" which will become apparent in the future.
According to Kann News, the release of the terrorists may be an effort to secure a free hand for the IDF to continue to strike at Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure, even after the near-complete withdrawal of the IDF from Lebanon.
With the reported consent of the United States and a possible "silent agreement" with Lebanon, the IDF continues to hold five strategic positions within Lebanon which overlook southern Lebanon. The aim of these positions is to oversee actions along the border and make sure that Hezbollah does not rebuild its forces, armaments, and infrastructure there after the IDF destroyed it.
When the IDF launched its ground offensive against Hezbollah in September, they not only found tunnel infrastructures but also extensive preparations for an invasion of the north with Hezbollah's elite Radwan forces, akin to Hamas' invasion of the south with its Nukhba forces.
These plans included carefully drawn maps of targets within Israel, large storage and concentration areas for forces to prepare for the invasion, and arms hidden in almost every civilian home.
The IDF spent much of its ground operations and the two months of its occupation of much of southern Lebanon searching for and demolishing Hezbollah's extensive system of structures and tunnel networks, with the hope that it will take a long time to rebuild it all.
The IDF Air Force has also been working to intercept any and all efforts to smuggle weapons into Lebanon via Syria, and continues to conduct targeted strikes against Hezbollah inside Lebanon - including senior officers or terrorists caught trying to operate within southern Lebanon.
