The Border Guard released this statement on the matter:

Last night, as part of the Border Guard's preparations for the month of Ramadan, Border Police officers from the Jerusalem area worked together with IDF crossing point soldiers at the "Tunnels" crossing to prevent smuggling from Judea and Samaria into state territory.

During the operation, the officers identified a vehicle coming from the direction of Judea and Samaria which raised their suspicions, and they decided to inspect its contents and passengers.

Upon stopping the vehicle for inspection, the officers located approximately 150 trays containing about 4,500 eggs in the trunk and back seat. After questioning, it was revealed that the suspect driver, a Jerusalem resident in her 40s, had attempted to smuggle the eggs into state territory.

As a result, the suspect driver was detained by the officers, and along with her vehicle, was transferred for further investigation to the Poultry Council, while the eggs were transferred for destruction.

The Border Guard forces will continue to work to prevent smuggling from Judea and Samaria into state territory, using all means at their disposal, all in order to maintain the security of the citizens of the State of Israel.

Smuggling eggs into state territory without supervision, as well as various health violations such as transporting food without proper temperature control, suspicion of illegal slaughter, or tainted meat can cause serious illness.
