Israel Katz and Pete Hegseth agree: Iran primary danger to regional security
Defense Minister Katz spoke with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on a range of shared issues and commitments, including the question of "the day after" in Gaza.

Defense Minister Israel Katz spoke last night (Monday/Tuesday) with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, where they agreed that Iran remains the main threat to regional security and discussed arms transfers and "the day after in Gaza."
According to Minister Katz's summary of the meeting as published on X:
Great conversation with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. I thanked him for President Trump's administration’s support in expediting military aid to Israel and its unwavering commitment to Israel’s security.
We agreed: All hostages must be brought home, and Hamas rule in Gaza must be eliminated. Iran remains the greatest threat to regional security – we will work together to prevent it from obtaining nuclear weapons. Our bond is unbreakable.
Meanwhile, Hegseth's readout was vaguer, except on the matter of Iran:
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth spoke with Israeli Minister of Defense Israel Katz today to discuss bilateral interests, regional developments and opportunities, and security assistance priorities.
The Secretary reaffirmed that the United States remains 100 percent committed to Israel's security and emphasized the unbreakable bond that exists between the United States and Israel. Both leaders agreed that Iran remains a threat to regional security and agreed to work together on this challenge.
With the ceasefire officially ended, Israel has unofficially given Egyptian and Qatari mediators a few days to try and get Hamas to agree to an extension of the hostage for prisoner exchanges carried out in the first phase of the hostage deal, instead of moving to the second phase where Israel would officially declare an end to the war for the remaining hostages.
Israel has already ended all deliveries of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip due to Hamas' refusal to agree to the Witkoff proposal, which would see the release of half the hostages now and half the hostages after Israel and Hamas reach an agreement on a permanent ceasefire.
Hamas has repeatedly rejected any change in the original agreement as laid out by the Biden administration, including any releases of hostages without Israel declaring an end to the war.
