And Then...All Hell Breaks Loose

War with Hamas? Not for a week - here's why

While Israel is pessimistic about a renewed hostage deal, the IDF is not set to renew hostilities for at least week due to this constraint.

The IDF will not be renewing the war in Gaza for at least a week, to give time to incoming IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir - who is set to be sworn in this Wednesday - time to establish himself in the position and with his subordinates, according to a Ynet report.

Zamir, who previously served as the Defense Minister Director-General, is being brought in in an effort to bring in outsiders who are not tainted by the failure to stop October 7 or for being insufficiently aggressive in the subsequent war.

According to a report by Kann News tonight (Sunday), the government has been dropping hints and suggestions that Zamir "clean house" and remove senior officers who were in their positions during October 7 and whom they consider responsible for the failure to stop it.

Zamir even visited Southern Command today to review existing offensive plans for the Gaza Strip. He reportedly critiqued some of them as insufficiently offensive and demanded they be redrafted, with an emphasis on values such as "victory" and "destroying Hamas" informing IDF strategy.

Despite this, Israel is reportedly allowing Egyptian and Qatari mediators a few days to try and get Hamas to agree to hostage releases on its terms and without Israel agreeing to end the war from the outset, though Israeli officials remain pessimistic about this effort's prospects.
