Mediators Seek to Extend Ceasefire
US and Israel negotiate major concessions for ceasefire extension during Ramadan
Israel is currently engaged in discussions with the United States to extend the ceasefire and hostage release agreement for a few more weeks, according to a report by Kan News.

The goal of these negotiations is to facilitate the continued release of hostages while also addressing strategic concerns related to Israeli security.
The extension of the ceasefire is contingent upon Israel considering certain concessions, including the potential withdrawal from the Philadelphi Corridor, a region critical to Israel's security along its border with the Gaza Strip. Additionally, the deal would involve the release of more Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.
Mediators are working to ensure that the ceasefire and the associated hostage releases can be extended to cover the entire month of Ramadan, a key period in the Palestinian calendar. This would allow both sides to maintain a temporary peace while ensuring that more hostages are freed.
An Israeli official revealed that section 14 of the current agreement provides for the extension of the ceasefire, and Israel is open to continuing the discussions. However, the official emphasized that Israel will not engage in negotiations without meaningful compensation, meaning that any talks about extending the ceasefire must include the release of additional hostages.
This move comes amid growing pressure for further humanitarian actions and the desire to avoid further escalation during the sensitive period of Ramadan. While Israel remains committed to securing the safe return of its hostages, the country also maintains its stance on ensuring national security and addressing concerns regarding territorial control.
The negotiations are ongoing, with both Israel and the United States working together to find a balanced approach that will both uphold Israeli security interests and address the humanitarian needs of the hostages and their families.
