The IDF struck a key Hezbollah operative today (Wednesday) along the southern Syrian border, as part of its efforts to foil weapons smuggling from Iran to Hezbollah forces in Lebanon.

Here is the full IDF statement:

Earlier today, Israeli Air Force aircraft, guided by the Intelligence Division, attacked and eliminated Mahran Ali Nasr al-Din, a key terrorist in Hezbollah's Weapons Acquisition and Transfer Unit (4400).

Unit 4400 is Hezbollah terrorist organization's weapons acquisition unit. The unit is responsible for smuggling weapons into Lebanese territory from Iran and its proxies, and works to maximize the organization's weapons stockpile. Since its establishment, the unit has built numerous smuggling routes along the Syria-Lebanon border.

During the war, the IDF has carried out extensive strikes and numerous operations against Unit 4400 and its commanders, including the elimination of the unit's commander, Muhammad Jafar Qasir, and his designated replacement, Ali Hassan Gharib.

Mahran Ali Nasr al-Din played an essential role in the field of weapons transfers within the organization and was directly engaged in cooperation with weapons smugglers operating on the Syria-Lebanon border.

This activity, which advances the arming of the Hezbollah terrorist organization, poses an explicit threat to the security of the State of Israel and contradicts the understandings reached between Israel and Lebanon.

The IDF has been launching repeated air strikes against Syria-Lebanon smuggling routes and waystations, as well as personnel in charge of smuggling weapons and equipment to Hezbollah, ever since the war began on October 7.

When Bashar Assad ruled Syria, Iran was able to deliver weapons directly from Damascus airport across the Lebanese border. Though that smuggling effort has been made harder with Assad's fall, Iran is still doing what it can to resupply Hezbollah via Syria and Lebanon. This, despite the promise of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa that his government will prevent such smuggling efforts.
