Oded Lifshitz, murdered in Hamas captivity, will be laid to rest today (Tuesday) after a funeral procession that began a short time ago. Hundreds arrived in Rishon LeZion, from where the Ark's journey departed, to accompany him on his final journey with Israeli flags and signs.
Oded Lifshitz, 85, one of the founders of Kibbutz Nir Oz, was kidnapped from his home in the October 7 massacre. His body was identified last Thursday after it was returned to Israel as part of the first phase of the kidnapping deal.
The Hostage Families Headquarters invited the public to pay tribute to the coffin's journey at three main points: at 11:00 a.m. at Chevra Kadisha in Rishon Lezion at 1 Ahad Ha'am Street, at 12:15 p.m. at Sa'ad Junction, and at 12:45 p.m. at Nir Oz Junction. The public was asked to stock up on Israeli flags.
The official funeral ceremony will begin at 14:00 at the cemetery in Kibbutz Nir Oz, where Lipshitz will be laid to rest. During the ceremony, members of his family, old kibbutz members who knew him from the founding years, representatives of the kibbutz movement and representatives of the Hostages Families Forum are expected to speak.
The ceremony will include the reading of pieces of poetry that Lifshitz particularly liked, as well as the live playing of classical music, which was his favorite. Interior Minister Moshe Arbel will be the government's representative at the ceremony.
