Elon Musk on Benjamin Netanyahu's trial: "The deep state is everywhere"

X owner and DOGE Director Elon Musk quote-posted a video posted by conservative commentator Mark Levin today (Monday) about the Netanyahu trial, saying that the trial is a result of a "deep state" conspiracy against the Prime Minister.

Elon Musk said specifically that the "deep state is everywhere," a reference to a deep-seated belief on the right and elsewhere on the political spectrum that unelected and unaccountable government officials in various countries seek to unjustly ruin the lives of anyone who protests their actions.

The movie referenced, entitled The Trial is an examination of the trial of Benjamin Netanyahu, and created by Gilad Goldschmidy and Yoad Ben Yosef, focusing predominantly on Case 4000, which accuses Netanyahu of providing the Walla news company with bribes, specifically eased regulations, in exchange for favorable media coverage. 

It presents arguments suggesting the case is legally weak and driven by political motivations. Commentators question the fairness of the investigation, highlighting alleged procedural errors, prosecutorial misconduct, and media leaks. The text examines potential biases within the legal system, suggesting a possible overreach of power by the prosecution. 

The movie raises concerns about the impact of the trial on Israeli democracy, particularly regarding public trust and the potential for a "coup" via judicial means. Views of legal experts, journalists, and political figures –including some who are not Netanyahu supporters – are featured in the text, offering various perspectives on the case and its broader implications.

The trial has been a political flashpoint in Israeli society, with Netanyahu's supporters questioning the validity of the evidence and strength of the charges. In addition, the court's insistence on forcing the Prime Minister to testify multiple times a week in the middle of an ongoing war has aroused the Prime Minister's ire and those of many around him. Netanyahu was even forced to testify shortly after a hernia operation which left him in bed for two weeks.
