Squeezed tight

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem expressed his willingness to accept the proposal of the mediating countries regarding the hostage release ceremonies, with the aim of bringing about an end to the crisis and the release of the Palestinian prisoners.

In the limited discussion, it was said that Israel is not interested in blowing up the deal, but at the same time, it will not remain silent about Hamas's blatant violations. One of the ministers came up with an idea, in light of the terrorist organization's serious violations: to demand as compensation the release of a living hostage whose health condition is complex, along with the four hostages expected to return this week.

In talks with the mediators, the idea of increasing the number of hostages to be returned came up, but Israel conveyed a clear message that any further step in the framework of the outline currently being discussed with the mediators would also include live hostages and not just fallen soldiers. Israel also demands a clear assurance that the next release of Israeli hostages will take place without Hamas displays of force and without degrading ceremonies.

Following repeated violations of agreements by Hamas, Israel's Prime Minister’s Office announced that the planned release of Palestinian prisoners, would be postponed until the release of additional hostages is secured.

This decision comes after Hamas held public displays of hostages in a degrading and cynical manner for the past month.

Meanwhile, Government ministers have been informed that the Bibas family has requested no official government representatives be present at the funeral of their loved ones.
