Perched at over 2,500 feet above sea level, Jerusalem is seeing even a light dusting by Monday morning, though forecasters say accumulation isn’t guaranteed. With temperatures hovering near freezing and the storm already blanketing northern Israel in white, residents are buzzing with excitement over a potential snowy spectacle.

Snow in Jerusalem is a rare treat, happening only once every few years. When it does, it transforms the city’s ancient stone streets and iconic landmarks—like the Western Wall and Mount Zion—into a postcard-perfect winter scene. The last big dump came in January 2022, when nearly 8 inches coated the city, shutting schools and sparking impromptu snowball fights. For a truly historic benchmark, locals still talk about the December 2013 storm that buried Jerusalem under as much as 28 inches of snow.

Social media is lighting up with anticipation, with X users posting about the cold snap and hoping for a repeat of past magic. While the storm’s full impact remains unclear, Jerusalem’s higher elevations give it a shot at joining the snow party.

It’ll be a fleeting but unforgettable moment for a city more accustomed to sun than frost and we are so excited.
