Oops! Released Hamas terrorist dies after falling from roof in East Jerusalem
Na'il Abid, a Hamas terrorist released as part of the recent hostage exchange deal, died after falling from the roof of his home in the Issawiya neighborhood of East Jerusalem. Abid, who had served 21 years in prison, was freed last Saturday as part of a deal that included the release of several Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Israeli hostages.

According to reports from Ynet, Abid's fall occurred on Saturday, and the police are currently investigating the circumstances of the event. The main theory is that Abid may have committed suicide, though the investigation is ongoing. Following the fall, Abid was rushed to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Abid, a member of Hamas, was convicted for his role in assisting a suicide bomber responsible for the 2003 Hillel Café bombing in Jerusalem, an attack that killed seven Israelis and injured 57 others. His release last week sparked controversy, as he had been serving multiple life sentences for his involvement in the deadly bombing.
The Palestinian Authority’s Information Office confirmed Abid’s death, stating that "the released Jerusalemite prisoner, Na'il Abid, died after falling from a great height. He had been released in the exchange deal after serving 21 years."
This incident comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the recent hostage swap deal between Israel and Hamas. While Israel has agreed to release a significant number of Palestinian prisoners as part of the arrangement, the Israeli government is also facing challenges related to the release of individuals involved in acts of terror.
In response to the killing of the Bibas family, Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, announced a delay in the release of additional Hamas prisoners, condemning the "horrific act" and pledging to continue investigating the murder of the Bibas family members. A situation evaluation meeting with senior officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz, is scheduled for later this evening to discuss the ongoing security measures and the repercussions of the deal.
The deal also includes the release of 620 Palestinian prisoners, some of whom are convicted of murder and other serious crimes. The Israeli government is facing growing scrutiny over the balance between securing the release of hostages and the risks posed by freeing prisoners linked to terrorist activities.
