Five IDF reserve soldiers from the specialized "Force 100" unit have been indicted for allegedly subjecting a Palestinian detainee to severe physical abuse at the Sde Teiman detention facility, according to court documents filed today. The incident, which occurred on July 5, 2024, has raised serious concerns about detention facility protocols and oversight.

The defendants, who served as team commander, interpreter, security guard, and body searchers, are accused of conducting a prolonged assault on a detainee identified as S.A., who had been transferred from Ofer Prison. According to the indictment, the attack occurred during what was supposed to be a routine security check.

The 15-minute assault allegedly included kicking, beating with batons, and the use of a taser on the detainee's head while he was handcuffed and initially blindfolded. According to the indictment, one defendant allegedly stabbed the detainee in the buttocks with a sharp object, causing internal injuries. The victim was later hospitalized after detention staff noticed significant bleeding.

According to the indictment, following the assault, two of the defendants took the detainee back to his mattress while concealing his bleeding injuries. Approximately an hour later, the detainee reported breathing difficulties and headaches, prompting medical intervention and eventual hospital transfer.

Defense attorney Hovav Damri, representing some of the accused soldiers, contested the charges on Channel 14, claiming that prosecutors had dropped more serious initial allegations. "They can't admit their mistake so they're pushing other charges," Damri stated.

The case has sparked renewed debate about detention facility practices and the oversight of specialized units operating within these facilities. The IDF's legal division is proceeding with the prosecution while the military continues its broader investigation into detention facility protocols.
