Hamas: These 4 slain hostages will be released on Shabbat

Earlier today (Tuesday), Hamas confirmed that they are releasing the following 4 Israeli hostages, who either were murdered on October 7th or who died in captivity: Itzik Elgart, Oded Lifshitz, Tzachi Idan and Ohad Yahalomi.

In a devastating blow to families who have endured months of anguish and hope, four Israeli hostages have been confirmed dead in Gaza. The news shatters the dreams of reunification that sustained their loved ones through 136 days of waiting, praying, and advocating for their return. Each death represents not just the loss of a beloved father, husband, or brother, but the extinguishing of hope that had burned despite the darkest circumstances.

Itzik Elgart, a 70-year-old dual Danish-Israeli citizen from Kibbutz Nir Oz, has been confirmed deceased while in Hamas captivity. Elgart, who was wounded in the hand during the October 7 attack, was taken from his home after attempting to treat his own injuries. His death brings profound grief to his family, including his brother Danny, who had been advocating tirelessly for his release.

Oded Lifshitz, 84, a retired journalist and peace activist from Kibbutz Nir Oz, has also been confirmed dead. A founding member of his kibbutz, Lifshitz was known for his humanitarian work, including helping Gazans access medical treatment in Israel. His wife Yocheved, who was released in October 2023 after 17 days in captivity, and their daughter Sharone had maintained hope for his safe return despite his known medical conditions.

Tzachi Idan, 50, from Kibbutz Nahal Oz, has been confirmed deceased, adding to his family's immense tragedy. Idan was kidnapped after witnessing the killing of his eldest daughter Maayan during the October 7 attack. His death compounds the profound loss already experienced by his family.

Ohad Yahalomi, 50, from Kibbutz Nir Oz, has been confirmed dead while in captivity. On October 7, he demonstrated extraordinary courage by sealing his wife Batsheva and their three children in their safe room, positioning himself outside with only a handgun to protect them. Despite being shot in the leg while defending his home, he continued fighting against the attackers. While his wife and two daughters managed to escape, Yahalomi was taken captive. His death marks the tragic end of a heroic struggle to protect his family.

The confirmation of these deaths casts a dark shadow over communities already steeped in grief, leaving families to mourn not just the loss of their loved ones, but the brutal manner in which hope was kept alive only to be extinguished. As Israel grapples with this latest tragedy, the deaths of these four men - each a hero in their own right - serve as a stark reminder of the human cost of this conflict and the urgent need to secure the safe return of all remaining hostages before more families face such heartbreaking news.
