In a shocking and chilling development, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has become the target of death threats ahead of his planned visit to Belgium. Murder Threats Against Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar Ahead of Brussels Visit: Extremist Group Calls for Violence
These threats, filled with virulent anti-Zionism, have shaken the Jewish community and raised grave concerns about the safety of the Israeli official.
One particularly disturbing comment on the Telegram chat reads: "I will wait until he comes to Belgium because I am in and you will see what I am going to do. Maybe Saar will return to occupied Palestine, but dead." This inciting language has been met with widespread condemnation, as it reflects an extreme level of hatred and violence that underlines the tone of so many pro-Palestinians using anti-Semitism as a weapon. The threats are not just aimed at the person of Saar but at the broader Jewish identity, echoing the same dangerous rhetoric that has fueled violence for decades and made Jews feel unsafe in many European countries, especially after the October 7th massacre by Hamas which only fuelled antisemitic hatred.
These violent threats come in the wake of a complaint filed by the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), a pro-Palestinian NGO, at the International Criminal Court (ICC). The group has demanded an arrest warrant for Saar, accusing him of committing war crimes during Israel’s military operations in Gaza since the October 7 massacre. This escalation in rhetoric has fueled further vitriol, culminating in violent threats online that echo a disturbing reality of rising anti-Zionist extremism.
One post, recently shared on the social media platform X, further fueled the anger and calls for confrontation: "To all free people in Belgium: Confront the Zionist terrorist Gideon Saar! On the morning of February 18, the so-called Israeli Foreign Minister, the Zionist terrorist, will arrive in Belgium." This statement highlights the deep hatred that exists within these circles for anyone associated with Israel, regardless of their role in the peace process.
Israeli officials have expressed grave concern over the escalating threats. A spokesperson for Minister Saar said the Foreign Minister would not be deterred by the threats and would proceed with his scheduled visit to Brussels as planned. "Despite the horrific threats, Saar will continue his diplomatic mission to Brussels," the spokesperson stated. This resolve to proceed despite these hateful calls for violence is both commendable and an important stand against the forces of hatred to the Jewish people and Israel.
However, the increasing prominence of such hate-filled rhetoric poses a grave threat not only to Israeli officials but to the safety of Jews everywhere. The language used by groups like "Gaza Now" and the HRF’s call for arrest warrants against Israeli officials continues to stoke the flames of violence, and the incitement to kill is nothing short of terrorism.
This situation calls for stronger action from the international community to hold accountable those spreading anti-Semitism and violence under the guise of political or humanitarian protest. These extremists seek to undermine peace and fuel division, but Israel and its representatives, like Foreign Minister Saar, remain steadfast in their commitment to diplomacy, security, and the preservation of the Jewish state.
The time has come for the international community to open its eyes and recognize that this form of hatred is not merely political—it is deeply rooted in anti-Semitism, and it must be confronted head-on. As Saar continues his work on the international stage, the world must stand with him and condemn the hate and threats directed at him and the Jewish people.
