After 15 Months - IDF implements strategic command change in northern Gaza, What comes next? 

This marks the end of an intense and continuous 15-month period of operations for Division 162, which began when the IDF initiated ground maneuvers in Gaza on October 27, 2023.

During this time, Division 162 played a pivotal role in the IDF's efforts in Gaza, accomplishing a range of critical objectives. The division was instrumental in dismantling terrorist infrastructure, destroying tunnel shafts, and eliminating thousands of terrorists—many of whom were involved in the deadly attack on October 7, 2023. The division's forces demonstrated unmatched determination, even while facing the harshest of challenges on the front lines.

However, these accomplishments came at a great cost. Division 162 mourned the loss of 265 of its brave fighters and commanders, who sacrificed their lives in the battle to secure Israel. The IDF expressed its deepest condolences and continues to stand with the bereaved families, offering ongoing support for their loss. The commitment to these families remains unwavering.

With the transfer of responsibility to Division 252, Division 162 now prepares for future missions, ready to respond to any operational needs as determined by the political leadership. Brigadier General Itzik Cohen, commander of Division 162, reflected on the division's journey and its lasting impact.

"For 15 months, we fought on the front lines of the IDF—in fierce battles, deep within enemy strongholds, with unparalleled determination," Brigadier General Cohen stated.
