A neccesary change, that came far too late

The "Air Force Participation Wing," a staff body responsible for managing the helicopter fleet, has now been assigned the crucial task of overseeing the operational readiness and deployment of aerial defense systems along the country's borders.

This new responsibility comes in direct response to the failures on October 7, when terrorists were able to breach Israel's borders from Gaza without sufficient aerial intervention. The Air Force's failure to respond effectively during that critical time has been acknowledged, and now, this strategic shift is designed to prevent such an incident from happening again.

The primary objective of this new initiative is to ensure that combat helicopters, fighter jets, and drones can be swiftly deployed in real-time to support ground forces and respond to emerging threats. The Air Force will now be able to allocate air assets independently and provide immediate fire support in response to threats. This change will allow for faster, more coordinated reactions, ensuring that the country’s borders are better protected at all times.

The Air Force Commander, Major General Tomer Bar, approved the operational shift after four months of staff evaluations and planning. The goal is to enable the Air Force to be more agile and responsive to the needs of the ground forces, enhancing Israel's ability to defend itself from future incursions.

With this new system in place, the Israeli military aims to strengthen its defense posture and avoid the vulnerabilities exposed during the October 7 attacks. The change is expected to bolster Israel's security and provide immediate support to military units, ensuring the nation’s borders are better protected against future threats.
