A promise fulfilled
WATCH: Heartwarming - Gadi Moses Shaves His Son's Beard After 482 Days in Captivity
After over 16 months in Hamas captivity, 67-year-old Gadi Moses is finally free, marking the end of a harrowing ordeal for him and his family. His release, alongside fellow hostages Arbel Yehoud and Agam Berger, came as part of a delicate ceasefire agreement aimed at securing the safe return of Israeli captives.

Gadi Moses was abducted from his home in Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7, 2023, during a violent attack by Hamas on Israeli border communities. His kidnapping, like so many others, left his family in a state of uncertainty and distress for over a year. Gadi's son, Yair Moses, endured the emotional hardship of waiting for his father’s return in a unique and poignant way. On the day of the attack, Yair made a vow: he would not shave or cut his hair until his father was safely home. This promise became a powerful symbol of hope and endurance during the long months of captivity.
As the months passed, Yair’s unshaven appearance became a reflection of the agonizing wait, but it also served as a testament to his determination to see his father freed. Just weeks before Gadi’s release, Yair expressed his longing with an emotional message: "Dad, I’m waiting for you with two fully charged clippers. When you arrive, you’ll be the first to shave this terrible beard off me. I love you, Dad."
Finally, with his father’s return, Yair was able to fulfill the promise he made. In a touching moment captured on video, Gadi Moses was seen shaving off his son’s beard, marking the conclusion of an emotional and symbolic journey. For Yair, the act of shaving symbolized not only the return of his father but also the end of the painful uncertainty that had gripped their family for so long.
Gadi Moses' release brings hope to many others still held in captivity, as negotiations continue for the safe return of more hostages. As for Yair, his personal vow is now fulfilled, and he can finally embrace the return of his father after more than a year of unimaginable hardship.
