Are the Bibas boys still alive?

Bibas Family: Major concern for Shiri and her children as Yarden is set to be released

As Yarden Bibas is expected to be released tomorrow, there remains deep concern for the fate of his wife, Shiri, and their two young children, Ariel and Kfir. Despite numerous hostages being freed in previous exchanges, this family from Kibbutz Nir Oz is the only one from which no hostage has been released, even though the previous deal saw the return of mothers and children.

The Fate of Shiri and Her Children: Concern Looms as Yarden Bivas is Set to Be Released

Yarden, 34, is part of the upcoming fourth phase of the hostage release deal and will be reunited with other captives, including Keith Siegel and Ofer Calderon. However, his family remains in Gaza, their whereabouts and well-being still uncertain.

The Bibas family’s abduction on October 7, 2023, has captured the attention of the world. Shiri, 32, was seen in a widely shared video holding her two children during the attack. This footage, along with other videos of Shiri and the children in Gaza, has been disseminated by both Hamas and the IDF. Since their abduction, Shiri, Ariel (4), and Kfir (10 months old at the time) have not been heard from, and there is a growing concern for their safety.

In February 2024, the IDF released footage showing Shiri and the children being abducted in Khan Younis, Gaza. The IDF spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, described the scene, noting that the family was being forced into different vehicles and transferred to another location, accompanied by militants. The uncertainty surrounding their fate has only intensified as the family waits for clarity on their condition.

Hamas had claimed that Shiri and the children had died in an Israeli airstrike, but the IDF has stated they are still investigating the validity of this claim. Despite the fears, the Bibas family has refused to give up hope, continuing to believe that Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir may still be alive. Their emotional plea for their loved ones' return has been echoed by the broader community, who are also holding onto hope.

A year and two months after the initial release deal collapsed, the family remains firm in their belief that Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir are out there and that they will continue to fight for their safe return. The list of hostages released by Hamas remains incomplete, but the Bibas family maintains they will not accept this as the final answer.

For now, Yarden’s release brings a glimmer of hope, but the pain and uncertainty continue as they wait for news of Shiri and the children.
