An IDF soldier was killed and six others were wounded during a military operation in the Jenin refugee camp earlier this morning (Thursday), the IDF has confirmed.

Staff Sergeant Liam Hazi, 20, from Rosh Ha'ayin, a member of the elite Haruv Reconnaissance Unit, was identified as the soldier who lost his life in the operation. The incident occurred around 11:15 AM when the unit was conducting building searches in Jenin.

According to military sources, the situation escalated when two terrorists, who had concealed themselves within a building, opened fire on the IDF force. In addition to Staff Sergeant Hazi's death, the attack left one soldier seriously wounded, three with moderate injuries, and two others with light wounds.

Following the initial engagement, the IDF deployed additional forces to the area, implementing an immediate evacuation protocol for the wounded personnel. As part of the evacuation effort, an IDF combat helicopter was deployed to the scene. The helicopter conducted a strategic strike in proximity to the building where the incident occurred, providing crucial support to secure the safe extraction of the casualties.

Jenin refugee camp has been a focal point of military operations in recent months, with Israeli forces regularly conducting counter-terrorism operations in the area. The camp has historically been a stronghold for various terror groups and has seen numerous confrontations between Israeli forces and armed Palestinians.

The incident marks another difficult day in the ongoing security challenges faced by Israeli forces in Judea and Samaria. The IDF has stated that it will continue its operational activities in the region as part of its broader security mission.

Staff Sergeant Hazi's family has been notified, and the IDF has expressed its condolences. The wounded soldiers have been evacuated to hospitals where they are receiving medical treatment, and their families have been notified.

The operation remains ongoing, and the IDF has indicated it will release additional details as they become available while maintaining operational security considerations.
