The IDF said that it shot down a Hezbollah intelligence gathering drone moments ago today (Thursday) over Israeli territory.

The IDF Spokesperson said that the IDF Air Force intercepted a Hezbollah intelligence gathering drone launched towards Israeli territory, and that sirens were not activated based on existing policy.

The Spokesperson further said that it would not allow Hezbollah terrorist activity and would work to remove any threat to the State of Israel and its citizens.

This is the first time Hezbollah has launched either missiles or drones at Israel or IDF forces since the ceasefire went into effect over two months ago.

Until now, Hezbollah has repeatedly claimed that the IDF was violating the ceasefire - especially with drone overflights and strikes against Hezbollah terrorists trying to move into southern Lebanon or move weapons around, itself a violation of the ceasefire.

However, Hezbollah leaders primarily called for the State of Lebanon and the guarantors of the ceasefire such as the United States and France to ensure that the IDF fully withdrew from Lebanon and respected the ceasefire.

Hezbollah has not yet released any statement regarding the intelligence gathering drone or why it was launched at this particular moment.

Lebanese political leaders from the President to the Prime Minister have repeatedly called for a full withdrawal from Lebanon by the 60-day deadline, which passed on January 26. However, President Donald Trump agreed to extend the deadline to February 18.

The IDF said it could not withdraw by the original deadline due to delays in the Lebanese Army deploying throughout the region and multiple reports of senior and junior officers in that army collaborating with Hezbollah and assisting it rather than disarming it.

The IDF will meantime be holding onto a number of southern Lebanese villages until the new deadline comes in two and a half weeks.
