That's Not A Good Comparison

Agudat Israel leader and Minister Yitzhak Goldknopf said today (Tuesday) that Haredi MKs would support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in completing all phases of the hostage deal in order to get them all released from Hamas captivity.

During a speech at the Annual Conference for a National Economy, Minister Goldknopf said that he told Prime Minister Netanyahu that he shouldn't worry, and that "what Moses did, you are continuing to do. Moses took the Jewish People out of Egypt, and you are bringing the hostages home," he said to some applause.

He also said "we are with you" in any deal, adding that "we don't know what's good and what isn't good" he noted, but "we know one thing - to go and free all the hostages - to the last of them."

Shas party leader Aryeh Deri defended a similar policy when speaking to his party faction about the law commemorating Rabbi Ovadia Yosef:

"We know how important this issue was to Maran Rav Ovadia. From day one, the entire Shas movement - on one hand, we want to collapse Hamas and strip it of its military and governing capabilities, but on the other hand, the hostages are constantly before our eyes.

"In the first deal, we brought back close to 100 hostages. Not everyone agreed with us then, and now too. I give the benefit of the doubt to those who disagree. I understand the concerns - this is a very difficult deal with heavy prices, but we must save lives.

"We will make a great effort for the last of the hostages to return. We don't operate with declarations or threats. We don't threaten anyone! We are commanded to do this and we will do everything in our power so that the last of the hostages, both living and no longer living, will return. How do we do this? I don't ask questions. We know what we need. Even those who didn't believe it would happen now see that it is happening and it will continue to happen with God's help."
