Of the seven hostages released so far as per the hostage deal Israel signed with Hamas, several were held in Hamas tunnels for eight months without daylight and transferred between various underground compounds. This was revealed today by the IDF's Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Colonel Dr. Avi Benov, in an interview with the Reuters news agency.
He said that "some of them were held alone and others were together. The physical condition of those who were held together was better." Dr. Avi Benov added that the hostages said that in the days before their release, the treatment they received from their captors improved. "They were allowed to change clothes and received better food. They looked in good condition and were smiling in the videos on the days of their release," he said.
Ynet reported that it did not say whether any of them had returned from captivity with signs of torture or ill-treatment, but added that some had not received proper treatment for the wounds they had sustained on the day of the abduction.
The lieutenant colonel also said that some of the hostages returned with symptoms of mild starvation. At the same time, it is possible that the next hostages to be released will be sicker people. In addition, the deal will also release the bodies of hostages who were murdered during their captivity.
Yesterday Hamas sent Israel a list in which it was noted that eight of the 26 abductees who are due to be released in the first stage are not among the living.
