A bus carrying 18 Israeli tourists overturned during a night journey near Luang Prabang in northern Laos. The passengers sustained minor injuries and were initially transported to the city of Luang Prabang before being taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
All 18 passengers from the most recent crash are reported to be in stable condition and receiving necessary medical care.
This incident comes just two days after a more serious crash on Saturday night that left 13 Israelis injured, some critically, when their bus crashed after the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel.
Thai medical services responded swiftly, with ambulance teams deployed to the Chongmek border crossing. Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital activated its emergency protocols, including an urgent appeal for blood donations to treat the incoming patients.
Speaking on Sunday, PassportCard CEO Ronit Segal confirmed that due to the injuries' severity, the decision was made to evacuate patients to more advanced medical facilities in Thailand.
Israeli diplomatic officials, including the Foreign Ministry and its Unit for Israelis Abroad, continue to coordinate with local authorities as the medical evacuation progressed. By late afternoon yesterday (Sunday), nine injured tourists had been successfully transferred to Thai hospitals, with arrangements ongoing for the remaining patients.
Local authorities are investigating both incidents. Israeli consular officials in the region are working to assist the injured tourists from today's accident, in addition to those injured yesterday.
