Hila revealed the disturbing threats she received from Atallah during his imprisonment. "He knows a lot of personal details about me – who my parents are, where I live, and that my fiancé is an IDF soldier in Nablus. He is sure that my child is his child," she shared. "He threatened me that he would haunt me for the rest of his life and take me to Nablus. I have sacrificed too much already."
The emotional toll on Hila is evident as she explained the psychological strain she has experienced since learning of Atallah's imminent release. "Mentally, I am suffering from a crazy regression – staring into space, crying, and having angry outbursts," she admitted. Hila also expressed frustration with the lack of preparation and support from the prison service. "Throughout this whole story, there was always someone trying to interrupt the indictment and silence me," she added.
Drawing a parallel to the failure to heed warnings before the October 7 massacre, Hila said, "I warned the authorities before the rape. I told the intelligence officer and my commanders, 'He's strange. He talks to me about things he's not supposed to.' After the assault, I went to them and they said, 'Okay.' Now I feel like security forces are only clever in hindsight. They should have listened to me – just like they should have listened to the female lookouts before October 7."
Hila is also adamant that Hamas did not request Atallah's release, speculating that someone from within the security forces orchestrated his release for reasons unknown. "I'm sure someone in the security forces found it convenient for him to be released, so the whole truth wouldn't come out," she said.
Despite her fears, Hila’s petition to the High Court to block Atallah’s release was rejected, and her appeal to Defense Minister Israel Katz went unanswered. "Defense Minister Katz did not bother responding, nothing, absolutely nothing," she said in frustration.
As Atallah's release approaches, Hila remains deeply concerned for her safety and the lack of action from the authorities that she feels should have protected her.
