Heart-warming: The Incredible Gift Prepared During 477 Days of Captivity

A touching and surprising gift awaited Liri Elbag upon her release from Hamas captivity after 477 days. Liri’s father, Eli Albag, a well-known figure in Israel’s motorsport scene, had arranged for her dream car to be brought into the country months before her return. The car, a rare Toyota Supra MK4, was sourced in a special operation from Dubai and had been waiting for her in the parking lot for when she came home.

Liri Albag's Dream Car: The Surprising Gift Awaiting Her Release

The Toyota Supra MK4 is an iconic model among car enthusiasts, especially due to its connection to the "Fast and Furious" movie franchise, where a similar car was famously driven by Paul Walker. This specific car, however, is the only one of its kind in Israel, making it an incredibly rare and special gift for Liri. Eli and his friend, Doron Kaufman, took on a complex mission to bring it from Dubai, knowing how much it meant to Liri, who had always dreamed of owning it.

"This is Liri's dream car," Kaufman said. "When Eli told me about it, I knew we would do everything to bring it to her. We believed she would come back." The car was delivered with great care and precision, despite the enormous global demand for the model and the logistical challenges involved.

Liri, who had been abducted by Hamas on October 7, 2023, just two days after completing a lookout course at the Nahal Oz outpost, had spent nearly a year and a half in captivity under harsh conditions. Despite a video in May showing Liri injured and frightened, her family never lost hope. Their optimism was bolstered by the belief that one day, Liri would return and reunite with them—and that her dream car would be waiting for her when she did.

For the Elbag family, the Toyota Supra is more than just a car. It’s a symbol of their deep family bond and the strength they showed during Liri's captivity. Eli Elbag, a passionate race car driver, and Liri had shared a love for motorsports from an early age. “Liri grew up with motorsports from the age of zero,” Kaufman explained. “She was always there, cheering on her father during races.”

Liri’s family expressed their immense relief upon her return: “A sense of relief and happiness envelops us after 477 long and unbearable days of nerve-wracking waiting. We finally got to see Liri, hug her, and know that she is with us, in her safe place, surrounded by the love of her family.”

While they celebrate Liri’s return, the family’s thoughts are with other families who are still awaiting the return of their loved ones. “Our hearts are with the families of the remaining hostages,” they shared. "We will continue to act in every possible way until everyone returns." The Albag family’s strength, unity, and hope continue to shine, as they work to bring all hostages home.
