Today (Thursday) marks the third day of Operation Iron Wall in Jenin. Fighters from the Menashe Brigade, Egoz, Sayeret Haruv, Battalion 90, Duvdevan, undercover Border Police and two battalions of the Border Police are participating in the operation.
Terrorist Zakaria Zubeidi, who lives in Jenin, is expected to be released from prison soon as part of a hostage deal. Zubeidi took part in the murder of Israelis and carried out terrorist acts, and on September 6, 2021, he escaped from Gilboa Prison with five other prisoners, through a tunnel they dug. Five days later, he was caught together with one of the fugitives in the area of Kfar Tavor.
A military source stated: "The operation in Jenin will not end soon. If Zubeidi holds a weapon, he will be killed, there will be no difference between him and other terrorists. As soon as he is released, we will explain to him exactly what he is not allowed to do."
"We set out with a trick that made it possible to capture the terrorists inside the Jenin refugee camp without being able to escape," he continued. "As soon as we identified the need to act against the terrorists' capabilities, we decided to set out without waiting for the intentions of an attack."
So far, 13 terrorists have been killed. The IDF allowed 2,000 residents to evacuate after a check.
Itay Blumenthal reported that last night the terrorists who carried out the attack in Funduk were eliminated. A senior military official said: "There was an intelligence pursuit. The force closed the house in an undercover manner in Wadi Burqin. Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, who was at the command post in Jenin, saw with his own eyes the 'pressure cooker' and the elimination of the terrorists." A third suspect who may have been part of the squad was arrested.
