The IDF said that it acted against a number of terrorists posing a threat to its forces in the Gaza Strip following redeployment today (Wednesday), despite the ceasefire in effect following the hostage deal.
In the southern Gaza Strip, IDF forces following the rules of the ceasefire identified a number of armed suspects which served as a threat to the force. The force there then moved to remove the threat and even eliminated Akram Zanoun, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist.
In addition, in a number of other areas in the Gaza Strip, IDF forces identified masked suspects moving towards IDF forces. The soldiers then fired warning shots to drive them off.
The IDF said that it is determined to adhere to the ceasefire terms in full in order to return the hostages. It did add that it is prepared for any scenario and will continue to use any actions necessary to remove immediate threats to IDF soldiers.
The IDF then repeated its call on all Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip to heed IDF instructions and not approach its forces deployed throughout the area.
Before he submitted his resignation, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi ordered the preparation of operational plans for all the army's fronts, including not only Lebanon and Judea and Samaria but also the Gaza Strip, in the event the ceasefire does not hold.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in addressing Operation Iron Wall in the Jenin area, said that Israel is attacking the Iranian axis on all its fronts - including Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Iraq - and Gaza.
Following the release of three hostages for 90 Palestinian terrorists in Israeli prisons, four additional women are expected to be released this weekend, though the names have not yet been provided to Israel.
According to the deal, they are supposed to be provided by the Qatari Prime Minister along with a list of the remaining hostages and their condition - whether alive or dead - 24 hours before the handoff.
