This discovery follows the withdrawal of IDF forces from the Gaza Strip as part of a ceasefire, and it is part of a broader effort to retrieve the bodies of terrorists who were killed during the conflict, Israel national news reports.
According to Hamas, the bodies of other senior terrorists, including Marwan Issa and Rawhi Mushtaha, were also found among the rubble. The recovery of these bodies marks an important moment in the aftermath of the recent hostilities.
Channel 12 News further reported that Abu-Jasser's body had been identified among those extracted from the rubble. Barel Shmueli’s family had previously been notified in April that Abu-Jasser had been killed in the fighting. With the recent discovery of his body, the family has now received some closure regarding the terrorist's fate.
Abu-Jasser was responsible for the fatal shooting of Barel Hadaria Shmueli on the night of August 21, 2021, during a Hamas-led riot at the Gaza border fence. Shmueli was shot at close range and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries a week later. In recognition of his actions, which included preventing a terrorist infiltration and protecting nearby communities, Shmueli was posthumously awarded the Medal of Distinguished Service for his bravery and dedication.
This latest development highlights the continuing tensions between Israel and Hamas, with both sides continuing to deal with the aftermath of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
