With the change of administration in Washington, a new mediator between Israel and Lebanon is expected to enter – Morgan Ortagus, who is known to be clearly pro-Israel and has extensive experience in international relations since the previous Trump administration. She will replace Amos Hochstein as deputy special envoy for Middle East peace.

Ortegas, who converted to Judaism following her marriage, served as a spokeswoman for the State Department during Trump's previous term. She later fell out with the president, but somehow she found her way back to the second Trump administration, apparently through the mediation of her political patron, Senator Lindsey Graham.

Morgan Ortegas was born on July 10, 1982 in Oviedo, Florida. She began her education at the University of South Florida, where she completed a bachelor's degree in political science. Later, she earned a master's degree in business administration and public administration from Johns Hopkins University - an education that served her well in a variety of positions in the fields of security, diplomacy, and economics.

In April 2019, Ortegas was appointed spokesperson for the US State Department under Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. During her tenure, she led the Department's public communications on important global issues such as the U.S.-Iran relationship, the Middle East peace process, and the special relationship between the United States and Israel.

Ortegas was involved in promoting sanctions policy against Iran and in emphasizing the United States' support for Israel in the international arena. Morgan Ortegas is identified as an ardent supporter of the strong relations between Israel and the United States. She has worked extensively to promote a foreign policy that constitutes strategic backing for Israel, while maintaining a rigid approach toward hostile countries such as Iran, especially on the nuclear issue.
