During the ceasefire in the aftermath of the "Iron Swords" war, Doron Kuta, a reserve soldier who was critically injured by gunfire from terrorists on the northern border, had an emotional reunion with the two individuals who saved his life. Doron met with Dor Vaknin and Hadar Shayer, an engaged couple serving as a senior medic and paramedic in Magen David Adom (MDA), who played a pivotal role in his survival.
At the height of the war, Dor and Hadar, residents of the Yaira moshav, chose to stay on the frontlines, defying evacuation orders to serve as a pioneering medical team. Despite the constant threat of live fire and the challenging terrain, they continued to provide life-saving care to both soldiers and civilians. When Doron was injured on October 9 at the Adamit junction, Dor and Hadar risked their lives under heavy gunfire to reach him. They treated him at the scene and ensured he was safely evacuated to a hospital, all while unaware of his fate in the days following the incident.
As Doron began his long road to recovery, he returned to the site of his injury to express his gratitude to the couple. The reunion was filled with emotion, as Doron thanked them for saving his life. "You saved me. I am so happy to see you," he told them, his voice filled with gratitude. Hadar, deeply moved, responded, "We saw many wounded, some of whom did not survive. Seeing you standing on your feet gives a lot of hope and light." Dor, visibly moved by the encounter, added, "After everything we went through, seeing you alive and healthy gave me an indescribable strength."
The meeting was a powerful reminder of the resilience and dedication of those who risk everything to save lives in the most dangerous and challenging circumstances. Doron, now recovering, was grateful for the medical team that gave him a second chance at life, and wishes them all the best as he continues his journey toward full health.
