Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today (Tuesday) that "at the instruction of the security cabinet, the IDF, Shin Bet, and the Israel Police launched an extensive and significant military operation to drive out terrorism in Jenin - 'Iron Wall.'"
Netanyahu said that "this is another step to achieve the goal we established in a government decision - strengthening security in Judea and Samaria."
The Prime Minister said that "we are working in a systematic and determined manner against the Iranian axis wherever it sends out its tentacles - in Gaza, in Lebanon, in Syria, in Yemen, and in Judea and Samaria."
In a hint of Israel's capabilities and plans, Netanyahu hinted that "the hand is still outstretched," meaning there's much more where that came from.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister and security cabinet member Bezalel Smotrich said of Iron Wall that "we have begun to change the security conception in Judea and Samaria, as part of the war aims added in the cabinet on Friday."
Regarding Iron Wall itself, he said that it would be "an intensive and ongoing move against terrorist parties."
Smotrich said that he opposed the hostage deal in part because the constituency he represents - Israeli settlers resident in Judea and Samaria - would be the first to pay the price of any deal releasing hundreds of terrorists into the area.
Jenin has heated up as a terrorist hot spot for the past few months, leading to lethal clashes with the Palestinian Authority forces in the area for a month, leading to casualties on both sides. Ultimately, the terrorist forces decided to unilaterally declare a truce, one which did not bind the IDF.
The IDF operation is a large scale one, which includes not only significant ground troops but also air support from drones and helicopters, targeting terrorists from the air.
