Security forces have launched Operation "Iron Wall" in Jenin, involving special units targeting terrorist infrastructure in the Samarian stronghold. The operation began with Israeli Air Force strikes, followed by ground forces entering the area.
"This operation aims to maintain the IDF's freedom of operation throughout Judea and Samaria, and to destroy and neutralize terrorist infrastructure and operatives classified as 'ticking time bombs' before they can carry out attacks," military officials stated. The operation involves four battalions from the Kfir Brigade and Commando Brigade, alongside Border Police and Shin Bet forces.
The operation has been planned since December, following Palestinian Authority security operations against Hamas and Islamic Jihad strongholds in Jenin and Tulkarem.
Recent Violence
Last week, two IDF soldiers were seriously wounded in Qabatiya near Jenin when their "David" military vehicle struck an explosive device. The Islamic Jihad's military wing claimed responsibility. The day before, an IDF and Shin Bet joint operation killed six militants, including senior members of the "Jenin Battalion."
Defense Minister's Position
Defense Minister Yisrael Katz recently visited the Judea and Samaria division, stating: "We will not allow Judea and Samaria to become Gaza or South Lebanon. Those who engage in terrorism like in Gaza will be treated accordingly. We will cut off Iranian proxy operations in Samarian refugee camps and protect settlements and residents."
Israeli Journalist Sapir Lipkin says that Palestinian security forces have pulled out of the Jenin refugee camp in response to Israeli military activity in the area, according to Palestinian sources.
Hillel Bitton-Rosen reported that two terrorists have already been eliminated in the brand-new operation.
The Jenin Government Hospital has reported receiving three patients with gunshot wounds during ongoing military operations in the area. The injuries were sustained from military gunfire, according to hospital officials.
The situation remains unclear as internet services in the refugee camp have been cut off, limiting access to accurate information from the area.
Ongoing Counter-Terror Operations
The military reported that since the war began, approximately 110 airstrikes have been conducted in the West Bank, eliminating at least 165 armed militants. The IDF emphasized that these strikes are carried out with precision to avoid civilian casualties and in accordance with international law.
The military also documented terrorists operating from mosques in Tulkarem and Jenin, highlighting what they describe as "cynical use of civilian institutions for terrorist activities, in violation of international law, endangering both Israeli forces and Palestinian civilians."
