Horrific tragedy

New Details: Deadly IED hit IDF vehicle convoy in routine patrol in northern Samaria

In the quiet hours past midnight, as three military vehicles wound their way through Tammun's darkened streets, a hidden device transformed a routine patrol into tragedy when it detonated beneath Evyatar Ben Yehuda's command vehicle. The Jordan Valley Brigade now prepares to hand over these troubled roads to new guardians, while a battalion mourns one of its own.

A late-night patrol in nothern Samaria turned deadly when an explosive device detonated under a military vehicle near Tammun, killing one reserve soldier and seriously wounding several others, including a battalion commander.

The incident occurred at 12:30 AM when a three-vehicle patrol from Reserve Battalion 8211, consisting of one David vehicle and two Panthers, was conducting routine operations. Sergeant Maj. (Res.) Evyatar Ben Yehuda was killed when the improvised explosive device detonated beneath the lead vehicle's front section. The battalion commander sustained serious injuries but is in stable condition, while three other soldiers suffered light to moderate wounds.

Military investigators examining the scene noted that while the explosive device was not military-grade, it proved lethal.

The IDF is implementing a significant operational shift in Judea and Samaria, moving from a defensive to an offensive posture under new directives from political leadership. The reorganization involves major changes to brigade responsibilities across the region.

Under the new structure, the Menashe Brigade will assume control of the Five Villages sector from Jordan Valley forces, while the Ephraim Brigade takes charge of the Tulkarem area. The Benjamin Brigade will expand its authority to include both the Talmonim settlement bloc and the strategic Route 443 corridor.

In a return to heightened security measures reminiscent of those implemented after October 7, dozens of new checkpoints are being established throughout the area. This increased presence aims to restrict movement and prevent scenarios like the recent Funduk attack, where terrorists were able to quickly escape after striking.
