"A moment of hope for an entire nation."

"I apologize that it took so long, Welcome home" - Knesset members heartfelt reactions to the 3 hostages released from Gaza

Israeli political figures have responded with a mix of relief and determination following today's emotional release of hostages Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher after 471 days in Hamas captivity.

In an official statement, the Prime Minister's Office confirmed that the families have been notified of their loved ones' safe transfer to Israeli forces, while reiterating the government's unwavering commitment to securing the release of all remaining hostages.

In a particularly moving statement, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant addressed the freed women directly: "Thank you for surviving the horror, and I apologize that it took so long. Welcome home."

Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Chairman Yuli Edelstein echoed the words of Romi's father, Ethan Gonen, speaking of transforming "an endless nightmare into a journey of healing" - emphasizing the challenging path ahead for both the freed hostages and Israeli society.

Religious party leader Aryeh Deri offered traditional prayers of thanks while calling for the safe return of those still held captive, and Opposition leader Yair Lapid marked the moment with the traditional Jewish blessing "Shehecheyanu," recited at significant moments of joy and gratitude.

The political response reflects both the national relief at today's developments and the sobering reality that dozens of hostages remain in captivity since the October 7 attacks.

After the kidnapped women arrived in the country, the ministers, members of the Knesset, and the President of the State congratulated the release of Romi, Doron, and Emily and their return to their families in Israel.

Defense Minister, Israel Katz opened and said: "Romi, Doron, and Emily have returned home. This is a moment of hope for an entire nation that embraces them and their families now in heart. I salute the IDF fighters, the security system, and everyone who worked diligently to bring them back to their families."

He added: "The State of Israel will not rest and will not be quiet until every abductee is returned home – the living to their families and those who are no longer alive to burial."

President Isaac Herzog stated: "Romi, Emily, and Doron – so beloved and cherished – a whole nation is happy that you have returned. We send a huge hug to you and your families. This is a day of joy and comfort, and the beginning of a challenging journey of recovery and healing together."

"An eye in bitter weeping and a heart rejoicing" – At this hour, our hearts are with all the anxious and grieving families, whose loved ones have not yet returned. We will not rest and we will not cease until we bring back all our sisters and brothers from the hell of captivity in Gaza – the living to rehabilitation and their families, and the fallen to the grave of Israel."

Minister Karai also addressed the release of the hostages and said: "Blessed is He who frees the captives! Romi, Doron, and Emily have returned home. Despite the unbearable images of the jubilant Nazis in Gaza and the terrorists, may their names be erased, today we are all happy and excited to see our loved ones back home."

"We will continue to fight until we eliminate terrorism and bring everyone home soon, God willing."
